Transportation
If there is a permanent change in how your child goes home, please contact our secretary, Karin Mueting, at [email protected] to let her know of the change. If there is a temporary change in how your child will go home for the day, please send a note to school in your child's Big Take Home Folder/Envelope. If the change occurs after your child leaves for school, you will need to contact Mrs. Mueting. If you send me an e mail, I may not see it before dismissal. Some days are very crazy and I do not get to check my e mail messages. Also, if there is a substitute, they will not have access to my e-mail. Mrs. Mueting will relay the change to me or a substitute teacher. The Glacier Ridge Elementary phone number is 733-0012.
Going home with a friend: If your child is going home with a friend BOTH children need to have a note stating that this is the case. This will ensure that a child does not show up at another house unexpectedly!
If you pick your child up after the AM class or drop them off before the PM class, please park your car in the spaces across from the front door and walk over to the sidewalk to meet your child or drop your child off.

Friday Notes Home
On Friday, your child will bring home their Friday Notes Home folder. Each Friday we will tell you about something that we liked about school that week. Please sign the sheet at the front of the folder and have your child place it back inside their book bag. You can also write a short note to your child if you like. These folders are a great way to watch your child grow as a writer this kindergarten year.
Birthdays
We will be following the district decision to forgo food in the classroom by NOT having a snack or celebrating birthdays with treats. We will acknowledge your child’s birthday in the classroom with some special traditions. You will not need to do anything except send your birthday boy or girl to school.

Recess
We will try to go outside every day!
Dress for the weather. It is no fun to be cold!
Wear good shoes for running in the mulch.

Backpacks
Students need their backpack every day. Please make sure it is large enough to easily accommodate a large picture book.
Independence
Please help your kindergartner gain independence in caring for their school items and their personal belongings. It is my goal that the kids be able to take their Big Envelope from their backpack on their own. Likewise, they need to be able to put this envelope into their backpack at the end of the day. As the weather gets cold there will be coats and hats and mittens to take off and put on. Please encourage your child to put on their coat on their own. Teach them how the zipper and buttons and snaps work and give them time to practice using them. We are happy to help the kids here at school, but we want to see them trying these things on their own.
Classroom Volunteers
If you would like to sign-up to help in the classroom, you will have the chance to sign-up soon! You will be receiving an e mail message with a link to the Sign-Up Genius site. We can use a helper for about 30 minutes at the start of each day. It's not glamorous work, but it is so very helpful to us and we greatly appreciate it.
